A two day outreach event held in conjunction with Blackberry Community Kenya and JKUAT Mombasa
The Mombasa Tech Community hosted a two day Kickstart Jam sponsored by BlackBerry
The Mombasa Tech Community was pleased to host the BlackBerry Community Kenya in Mombasa on 17th and 18th July 2013 at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
Members who had earlier on registered for the event had gathered in good time on 17th July, the mood was perfectly set to get started
Without wasting time the event kicked off with opening remarks and an introduction to the BlackBerry Community by Michael Kimathi. Thereafter, we had all the attendants get registered and join the BlackBerry Dev Spaces group (http://groupspaces.com/BlackBerryDevsKenya/) after which we were introduced to the community programs that BlackBerry offers. Later on we had the Tools distributed around which were to be used the next day for the actual hands on session. The day came to an end with attendants installing the tools and closing remarks.
So, on the second day, the excitement was even greater, everyone was quite early as agreed, the day kicked off with a session on porting existing apps 101 by Raymond, one of the Developers who was part of the Blackberry team Kenya after which he took the attendants through the concept of cascades 101 (C/C++) and Webworks 101 (HTML5) It was quite an in-depth and interesting session.
After a short break, Harrison Nene then took the attendants through Game Development (Unity) and presented a demo Game that he developed and also gave an opportunity to one of the attendants to play the game after which he took the participants through the actual Game Development and developed a prototype.
Finally, the two day intensive training came to an end with closing remarks from Michael and a group photo session. All the attendants greatly benefited from this training and felt challenged and motivated at the same time to thrive and learn more about BlackBerry Apps Development. Indeed, it was an eye-opener to the entire community, heartfelt appreciation to the BlackBerry team!
