A meet up amongst Mozilla Reps, Firefox Student Ambassadors, Regional Marketing Ambassador and core Mozillians in Mombasa.
Reviewing our work is an ever essential part of any activity. So, today we organized the second Mozcafe meet up for Mozilla Mombasa attended by 9 out of the 12 people invited, the meet-up took place at Nairobi Java House in Mombasa from 2.00 - 5.00 PM.
Impressively, everyone was just in time for the meet-up to actively brainstorm and discuss everything Mozilla :) Attendants were warmly welcomed by the Mozilla Mombasa Reps after which everyone introduced themselves briefly.
Thereafter, we smoothly started off with reflecting on progress made as a community, highlighting on the achievements, shortcomings, challenges, loop holes, do's and dont's. A lot was discussed, amongst which communication and a sense of belonging to the community was highly prioritized for the greater growth and survival of the community. Amongst the achievements were the birth of two Firefox Clubs; JKUAT Firefox Club and MKU Firefox Club which were led by the Firefox Student Ambassadors; Musa Alfan and Derrick James respectively and the achievement of Regional Marketing Ambassador for Kenya by Joshua Nyakundi.
We then discussed on ways in which we could collaborate and actively participate to come up with some awesome events that would be centered around Webmaker, FirefoxOS and WoMoz, each FSA took it upon them to get back to the Mozilla Reps on plans for a series of these events ofcourse with the support from others.
A few important details were highlighted about the upcoming WoMoz and Moz Barcamp event that have been planned for.
All said and done, questions were raised regarding social media channels and how to ensure active and interactive discussions that would entirely lead to successful community building. Musa Alfan proposed a Social Media Challenge as far as this was concerned, stay tuned for more updates on this.
It was also brought to attention that "Follow-up" needed to be strongly carried out in cases where events involved developing applications, systems, websites etc. Remember an idea is nothing until it is executed!
Lastly, as a result of all these discussions, it was agreed that a Google Group mailing list be formed for the Mozilla Mombasa organizing team that would facilitate in communication thus provide a forum where Mozilla Reps, FSA's, RMA's and core Mozillian contributors could effectively and efficiently share, learn and assist each other in carrying out events and Mozilla related activities. Kudos Joshua Nyakundi for taking it up and creating the mailing group.
We are hoping that with such constructive discussions and brainstorming meet-ups, we shall be moving a step ahead and making a great difference to the Mozilla Community and all the Firefox Student's Clubs within Mombasa and thus contributing to the overall success of Mozilla Kenya Community at large.
After some heavenly delicacies, we wrapped up with a photo session.
